Cross Country 2022 Season Review

"Over the years, St. Jerome's CYO Cross Country has grown from just a handful of athletes to a team of 55 runners in the Fall 2022 season. St. Jerome's Jaguars were able to field a team in almost every age group at CYO meets this season where each competing age group needs at least five runners to score as a team.

Even though cross country is an individual sport, training and competing as a team allows everyone to share the miles logged and the excitement of the meets. We were blessed with beautiful weather this fall, missed very few practices and had only one cancelled meet. So we got to spend a lot of time together running very intensive practices like repeating hill sprints and long runs on grass and very fun practices like water balloon relays and musical chair elimination laps.

We started our meets on St. Vincent Pallotti's home course. The first meet jitters and excitement settled into a great competition as everyone was ready to race their distance. Throughout the season in every age group we placed at one time or another in the top three competing teams and at the championship at Mary of Nazareth in Darnestown we won 3rd place trophies in 8U boys and 11U girls. As well as medals in the top ten placements for individual runners. 7th grader Elsa Hobert won 1st in girls 14U. We are looking forward to another great season in 2023"--- Coach Ada Lee
